4 Jordanian police, Canadian tourist killed in shootings

AMMAN, Jordan – Jordan says four security officers and a Canadian tourist were killed Sunday in shooting attacks in and near the central town of Karak.

The Public Security Directorate said a police patrol first came under fire near Karak and that the assailants fled in a car to the town. The statement says there were two separate shootings.

The identity of the assailants was not immediately known.

Global Affairs Canada’s website says there is no nation-wide advisory in effect for Jordon, but Canadians are still advised to exercise a high degree of caution due to civil unrest in the country.
