Vanessa Buttinger has been crowned Miss Oktoberfest 2016

Holly Pearson has officially passed the sache and crown to the 2016 winner of Miss Oktoberfest.

At the Gala Ball Friday night at Bingemans Ballroom, Vanessa Buttinger was announced as this year’s winner.

According to the Miss Oktoberfest Instagram account, Buttinger is a recent graduate from the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics BBA program where she was the President of the Lazaridis Students’ Society.

It goes on to say that she has a passion for working with others, exploring Kitchener-Waterloo, and competitive cheerleading.

Buttinger tells 570 News she’s really looking forward to serving as a role model and would like to share one message for young women who look up to Miss Oktoberfest.

“Being able to take an opportunity for what it can do for you” says Buttinger, “just being able to say yes and knowing that the worst thing that might happen, is it not working out in your favor but putting yourself out there is the first step, so if you can do that, then you’re already halfway there.”

Buttinger adds what it means for her to be a part of the Oktoberfest festival.

“The festival is so much more about being a part of the community and the culture,” says Buttinger, “being able to embrace our German heritage as well. It’s great to be a part of something that has been a longstanding tradition in my family as well.”

Buttinger has been a volunteer since she was 19 years old and her father was a volunteer and President of the festival.

Opening Ceremonies take place Friday at Kitchener City Hall where the 48th annual Oktoberfest officially begins with a keg tapping.
