Majors edge Panthers in pitching duel

It was quite the game Friday night at Labatt Park in London.

Only three runs were scored between the two clubs, Kitchener was trying to win the IBL pennant.

The Majors started things off in the first inning when Cleveland Brownlee singled and scored RJ Fuhr to take an early 1-0 lead.

That lead did not last long.

Panthers first baseman, Justin Interisano came to the plate in the top of the second and crushed his tenth home run of the season out of the park to tie it up at one’s. He finished the night 1-for-3.

Everything would stay quiet until the bottom of the eighth. London’s Byron Reichstein singled to score Michael Ambrose and that would be the eventual game winning run. London snuck one out, winning 2-1.

Majors pitcher Elis Jimenez (8-1) picked up his 8th win of the year. He threw a complete-game, giving up seven hits allowing one earned run and striking out five.

Ian Rendon (6-2) took the loss for the Panthers. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up two earned runs, whiffing six and walking two.

Centre Fielder, Tanner Nivins went 2-for-4 and David Whiteside had three singles.

London finishes their season on a seven game win streak. They improve their record to 27-9 and now sit a half game in front of the Kitchener Panthers for first place in the IBL.

Kitchener could not claim their first league pennant since 1996.

The Panthers have one game remaining. They will host the Brantford Red Sox Sunday night at Jack Couch Park at 7 p.m.

If Kitchener wins, that would tie them with London for first place.
