Mountain Equipment Co-op will be opening in Kitchener next April

Mountain Equipment Co-op announced today it will be opening it’s seventh store in Ontario on Manitou Drive in Kitchener.
The company sells outdoor sporting equipment including canoes, climbing gear and camping equipment among other outdoor sporting items.
Chief Financial Officer of MEC Sandy Treagus tells us how many jobs we can expect to see.
“It will create somewhere between thirty-five to fifty jobs, some in full-time and some in part-time capacity.”
The store will be located on Manitou Drive in Kitchener and it will take up 18-thousand square feet.
MEC has a lifetime membership program which is a one time five dollar fee. There’s over thirty-thousand members in the Kitchener-Waterloo area alone.
“The Tri-Cities is one of the fastest growing regions of Ontario, with many millennials among the area’s newcomers, said Treagus. These are young, active tech-savvy individuals who we believe are well-disposed to MEC’s unique retail offering.”
The location will break ground this summer and is expected to open next April.
