NDP delegates to cast federal leadership vote today in Edmonton

EDMONTON – Energized delegates at the N-D-P convention in Edmonton decide today whether Leader Tom Mulcair will stay or go.

About 17-hundred delegates heard rousing but divergent speeches yesterday from the likes of Alberta Premier Rachel Notley and party elder Stephen Lewis.

This afternoon, they’ll cast their votes in a critical leadership review.

Rank-and-file members must decide if Mulcair can revive the party from its low standing in the polls and chart its future course.

Mulcair maintains he can help the party make a political comeback, but a number of members are not convinced.
Notley took aim at the so-called Leap Manifesto — a party policy document that proposes weaning Canada off fossil fuels and preventing future pipeline infrastructure.

Lewis presented a different vision — stressing the importance of the discussion around the manifesto and suggested the dialogue could breathe life into the beleaguered party.
