Green Party Leader announces investment into transit system

By

Ontario Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner announced major plans for the transit system for Southwestern Ontario on Wednesday.

Schreiner said if elected, his party would invest $35-billion dollars over a 4-year period, with hundreds of millions of dollars to cover half the operating cost for each city’s transit system.

The transit system was his priority with the announcement in Guelph.

“Everyone in Southwestern Ontario needs access to good, reliable, affordable public transit,” Schreiner said, “We have the best plan for that. We will deliver that. We will fight for that at Queen’s Park.”

He said his goal is for Guelph to be the clean economy leader for North America and that starts with the transit system.

“Transit is essential, I mean our largest source of green house gas pollution is our transportation sector, and good public transit is essential to helping tack the climate crisis.”
