The school year is winding down and that means the Waterloo Regional Police Service is gearing up for ‘Operation Freeze.’
Police spokesperson Cherri Greeno says they’ve partnered with Crime Stoppers and Mac’s Convenience stores to bring back the positive ticketing program for the 17th year. “It’s where our officers go out and when they see a young person doing a good deed they will give them a ticket.”
The ticket isn’t a bad one, it’s one they’re going to want to receive because it entitles them to a free Froster from any Mac’s store in the region.
Greeno says the good behaviour can be anything from wearing their bike helmet, helping someone in need, or even picking up trash.
She adds this initiative gives officers a chance to interact with kids in a positive way.
