Guelph Police charge man with impaired driving after pedestrian struck

A 26-year-old man from Georgetown is facing impaired driving related charges after a pedestrian was struck Sunday night.

Guelph Police say they got a call to the Elizabeth and Duke Street intersection around 9:40 p.m.

It was there police allege a driver was “travelling at an excessive speed toward the intersection, went over a curb and struck a pedestrian crossing the street at the intersection.”

The pedestrian was taken to hospital in Hamilton for what they say were serious, non-life threatening injuries.

Police say their investigation into the condition of the driver led them to determine he was impaired by alcohol.

He was charged with impaired driving cause bodily harm, over 80 cause bodily harm, and dangerous driving cause bodily harm.

He is scheduled to appear in court June 8th.
