Local refugee community focus of ‘I Am Rohingya’ documentary

The Rohingya crisis has been ongoing for decades, but you may not have a full grasp on the issue. However, Sunday night is your chance to change that.

The film I Am Rohingya: A Genocide in Four Acts will be shown at the Theatre of the Arts starting at 7 p.m.

Yusuf Zine, the film’s director, says thanks to a local connection, the film will be educational for everyone.

“Waterloo is the homecoming screening because the whole Rohingyan community lives in Kitchener-Waterloo.”

The film focuses on children who came to Canada as refugees, something Zine says is noteworthy.

“It puts the issue in a different light when you hear these kids who range from 8 to 16-years-old teach you about the issues because they’re the ones who have gone through it with their families.”

More information about the film can be found right here.

Tickets which are just $12, and can be purchased right here.
