GRCA issues water safety statement, downgrades flood watch

The Grand River Conservation Authority is urging us to use caution near waterways this weekend.

A water safety statement has been issued for the Grand River watershed, as last week’s flood watch has now been downgraded.

The upcoming stretch of warm temperatures and sunshine are expected to cause snow melt and elevated flows  – meaning canoeists and kayakers should be careful.

Levels in rivers and streams could also rise and be fast-moving – but the GRCA says no flooding is anticipated.

Due to the conditions, all residents will need to use caution and stay away from waterways – and that goes for kids and pets too.

The GRCA says staff will continue to monitor the conditions, and this ‘Watershed Conditions Statement’ will remain in effect until April 26th.
