Throne speech offers glimmer of hope region will benefit from Ontario budget

The political head of the region is encouraged the March 28th provincial budget will have lots for Waterloo Region.

In a speech from the throne on Monday, the Liberal government promised the spending document will pour more money into issues that, while not exclusive to us, still plague our region.

Regional Chair Ken Seiling says any new spending for health care, home care and child care would be helpful to our community.

“They’re all initiatives that … we’ve been wanting to increase expenditures in these areas,” says Seiling. “I think they just reflect what the government says they’re doing. Obviously, it’s a pre-election budget.”

He says because it’s the final budget before the provincial election, he’s hopeful these are not empty promises.

“I think we’ll have to wait and see the budget, and ultimately the party platform,” he says. “All three parties will have to address these issues.”
