Mounties in Alberta say one man has been charged with two counts of uttering threats against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Alberta Premier Rachel Notley.

According to the Alberta RCMP, Orion Rutley had posted “threatening messages” targeting the pair on Twitter.

Rutley was arrested on January 19th and has since been released. He is expected to appear in a Leduc courtroom on February 8th.

As part of his release conditions, Rutley is not to have any contact with the Prime Minister or the Premier, and is not to use social media or possess any weapons.

A Twitter account bearing the man’s name has been suspended, but there’s no word on whether it is actually connected to Rutley.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.

Last year two other men were convicted of threatening Trudeau. One received a two year suspended sentence and the other was fined and given nine months probation.

The Prime Minister’s Office is not reacting to news of these threats, and says it doesn’t comment on matters relating to the PM’s security.
