LRT Vehicle #1 being sent back to Bombardier for completion, not repairs

The very first LRT vehicle sent to the Region from Bombardier is heading back to their plant in Kingston, but it’s all part of the plan.

Regional Councillor Tom Galloway tells 570 NEWS, “no, repairs would not be the right word, these are upgrades to bring the first vehicle up to the very same level as the others.”

He says there’s some retrofitting that needs to be done, and it was Bombardier’s choice if Vehicle #1 would be finished at the plant, or if crews would bring necessary parts up here to the Region.

That includes upgrades in software and for the vehicle’s interior.

Galloway says he’s glad the work will be done at the plant.

And he says it was always part of the plan to have Vehicle 1 retrofitted, and it was sent to the Region with full knowledge that it was not going to be a fully functional unit.

It was sent to the Region mostly for testing and commissioning the maintenance facility, and to start Regional Police and local fire services on rescue training.
