It was an emotional scene inside the Kitchener courtroom where accused killer Ager Hasan appeared for a hearing.
The 24-year-old Hamilton man is accused of killing his former girlfriend, 22-year-old Melinda Vasilije, in her Kitchener apartment in late April 2017.
Several members of Vasilije’s family, including her mother and sister were in the courtroom.
The room went quiet as Hasan entered, wearing tan khaki pants and a white t-shirt. He was unshaven and shackled.
Vasilije’s family and friends remained mostly silent only giving quick glances at the accused.
Hasan kept a blank stare looking straight ahead, never looking at the gallery.
The appearance only lasted a few minutes before Hasan was led out of the room and back to Maplehurst Correctional Complex in Milton.
Hasan will appear in court next on January 15, via video link from Milton.
Hasan faces a charge of second-degree murder, and three counts of breach recognizance.
