Guelph arena closes Saturday due to ammonia leak

A girl’s hockey tournament had to be postponed due to an ammonia leak at an arena in Guelph.

It happened Saturday afternoon at Exhibition Park Arena on Division Street.

The tournament was underway when the leak was discovered, and everyone had to be evacuated as a result.

Crews arrived and were able to find the leak and repair it. The arena remained closed for the rest of the day though, as it needed to be ventilated.

In a release, Heather Flaherty with the City of Guelph says the girl’s hockey tournament will be rescheduled.

“We’re working with the tournament coordinators to arrange delivery of items left in change rooms during the evacuation. We want to thank the players and their families for their cooperation today, we also want to thank our emergency services teams for their excellent and prompt support.”
