Police investigating report of tampered Halloween candy in Cambridge, 11 year-old sent to hospital

Regional Police are investigating a report of tampered Halloween candy picked up in the Cambridge area.

Police say an 11-year-old girl ate a Reese Peanut Butter Cup that contained a foreign metal object.

The child required hospitalization, and was later transferred to an out of town hospital for further inspection.

Inspector Michael Haffner says the girl has now undergone surgery. Her condition is unknown.

The investigation is continuing, including the source of the contamination.

Police say the child was trick-or-treating in the area of Hamilton Street, Montrose Street, King Street, Duke Street, and Lowther Street in Cambridge.

Regional Police are encouraging parents to examine their children’s candy before eating it.

If you have any information, or find contaminated candy, you’re being asked to contact police at 519-570-9777.
