Local officer suspended due to sexual assault allegations, SIU investigating

Regional Police say a local officer has been suspended in connection with an investigation into an off-duty matter.

They say the Special Investigations Unit has been notified, and an investigation is now underway.

In a statement to 570 NEWS, the SIU confirms the investigation is in connection to an alleged sexual assault.

“The Special Investigations Unit is investigating a Waterloo Regional Police Service officer in relation to an allegation of sexual assault that allegedly occurred in Kitchener on October 14, 2017 around midnight.

As this is a case where an allegation of sexual assault was made, the SIU will not be releasing any further details in order to protect the identity and privacy of the complainant ‎and others involved.”

Meantime, the six-year Waterloo Regional Police Service officer has been suspended with pay – as per the requirements of the Police Services Act of Ontario.

The SIU invokes its mandate when incidents involving police and civilians result in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
