Sgt. Peter Viol welcomed home at St. Mary’s ‘Hike for Heart’

A local police sergeant raising money for heart health wraps up his 43,000km journey in Waterloo on Saturday.

The 25th annual ‘Hike for Heart’ in support of St. Mary’s Hospital kicks off this morning, and Sgt. Peter Viol will be on hand as he completes his annual trek from Vancouver.

Viol rides his bike every year in his “Canadian Heartbeat Tour” in support of St. Mary’s Cardiac Care Centre, as his wife died from complications following a heart transplant in 1983.

Viol will be joined hundreds of community members, including Regional Police Chief Bryan Larkin, and Adele and Brady from our sister station CHYM 96.7.

Registration for Saturday’s event is completely free, but donations are appreciated.

The hikes kick off at 10 a.m. at the Laurel Creek Conservation Area in Waterloo.
