Expectations high for Rangers, home and season opener goes tonight

The voice of the Kitchener Rangers on 570 NEWS says he has a really good feeling about this year’s team.

“I think expectations are high coming into the season…The way this team tracked, with its’ progress last year, I think we’ve got a lot of reason to look forward to, the further development of some of the young players and there’s a good core of older guys here in a Western Conference where the landscape is changing…This is a Western Conference where the Kitchener Rangers can make some noise this year.” said Mike Farwell.

Kitchener opens the 2017-18 campaign at home to Flint on Friday. Farwell and new broadcast partner Chris Pope launch the pre-game show at 7 p.m.

Farwell is predicting Kitchener will win 43 games, which would be a seven game improvement over last season.

He thinks two of the players to watch will be defenceman Giovanni Vallati and forward Greg Meireles.

The Rangers also may have one of the best bluelines in the OHL. Kitchener added towering defenceman and Waterloo native Logan Stanley over the summer. He was part of the deal that sent Jeremy Bracco to Windsor.

Goalie Luke Opilka is expected to be out until at least December after having a second hip surgery.

Kitchener’s first road game is Saturday night in Sarnia.

You can listen to all the games on 570 NEWS.
