Green bin use up 124 per cent after new garbage pick-up rules put in place

It has been neary six months since the Region of Waterloo put in place new bi-weekly garbage pick-up and it appears the changes have been a huge success.

A new report says green bin use is up a staggering 124 per cent since March and blue box use is up 13 per cent.

The new changes mandated that garbage is picked up every other week while blue box and green bin is gather weekly.

The region also gave out thousands of free green bins prior to the launch of the changes.

A full report on the success of the program is expected in early October.
