Dead bat with rabies found in Guelph

A warning out from Public Health.

The agency says a dead bat was discovered in the Guelph area, and it has now tested positive for rabies.

Luckily, there was no human contact with the animal, but they say an unvaccinated dog may have been exposed. The dog is now under confinement at home for three months.

As a precaution, they’re advising that we stay away from all wildlife — including stray cats, dogs, and of course, bats.

Pet owners are also being reminded to vaccinate their pets for rabies.

If you, or your pet, have been bitten or scratched by a suspicious animal, you should see your doctor immediately and report the incident to 1-800-265-7293 ext. 4753.
