Recovering addict traveling across Canada in the hopes of understanding the opioid crisis

It’s a crisis right across our country, fentanyl.

A 19 year-old recovering addict is touring across Canada in the hopes of learning more about the opioid crisis and is trying to find insight on why it’s happening.

Leila Attar tells 570 News the opioid crisis can affect anyone and there needs to be an ongoing conversation and education for everyone.

“Fentanyl has no barriers, it’s touching all communities. It’s something we all need to be cognitive of and we need to as a society care about. This can touch anyone’s child, so we all need to be aware of that and having conversations and looking for the right solutions. The reality is that it is out there and it’s a game changer.”

Attar nearly died last November after taking percocets that were laced with suspected fentyal.

Police in Sarnia are out with a warning after they were called to three overdoses over five hours yesterday evening.

Regional Police say since January, 39 people have died from suspected overdoses in Waterloo Region.
