Man who robbed Drayton bank also a suspect in Milverton bank robbery

By cceolin

Wellington OPP are trying to determine whether a man who robbed a bank in Drayton, Tuesday, is behind a similar heist in a neighbouring community just a week earlier.

Police say in both cases, a lone male — armed with a weapon and wearing a disguise — got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

In the latest robbery, a man wearing a ball cap with a Montreal Canadiens logo on the front and a black bandanna to partially cover his face, walked into the RBC on Main Street in Drayton around 4 p.m., yesterday, and confronted employees with a weapon.

Last Tuesday, a man — again wearing a ball cap with a Budweiser emblem and exposing only his eyes with the use of a blue and white bandanna — brandished a weapon at staff at the CIBC in Milverton.

Constable Marylou Schwindt tells 570 NEWS investigators believe the two banks were robbed by the same man based on the suspect’s physical features.

“We’ve released two photos of the suspect, and just some features of the suspect in comparision to the one that occured a week ago in Milverton, we do believe the two robberies may be linked,” says Schwindt.

The suspect is described as a white man with a thin build.

Schwindt says it’s a concern the robberies have occurred in such a short time-frame.

“If it is the same person, he’s done two in the last week,” she says. “Obviously we’re concerned he may try to do this again.”

Anyone with information on either robbery is asked to call Wellington County OPP or Crime Stoppers.
