Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore in Guelph reopens after fire

Habitat for Humanity’s ‘ReStore’ in Guelph is getting ready to reopen after a fire broke out earlier this week.

Crews were called to the Dawson Road storefront on Tuesday after flames were spotted shooting out of the back of the building.

Staff had to be evacuated, but luckily, no one was injured.

Steve Howard is CEO of Habitat for Humanity Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph and says their store has been shut down for the past few days.

“There was a small fire in the external corner of the building on Tuesday. Staff reacted quickly and called the fire department, so the damage was limited to a small area. However, the key concern for us, was smoke damage that may have been caused inside. We made the determination on that day, that we should shut down as we make some repairs and did some testing.”

Howard says the closure was precautionary, and they’re now ready to reopen on Friday.

“We’re still not sure how the fire started. The Fire Prevention Officer wasn’t able to determine the cause. We’ve made some repairs, and took some safety measures, and we’re looking forward to reopening!”

We’re all invited to check out the ‘ReStore’, and make a donation.
