Updated: Children seriously hurt after being struck by suspected impaired driver in Wellesley

Additional Charges have been laid on the man Police allege struck two children in Wellesley while driving impaired.

Waterloo Regional Police have charged the 55 year-old Wellesley man with driving with open liquor, driving without insurance and driving while suspended.

This is on top of two counts impaired driving causing bodily harm and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

The collision happened just before 6:15 p.m. on David Street in the town of Wellesley.

The two kids, ages 3 and 7, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

One of the children was later air lifted to Hamilton hospital.

Regional Police say the kids were walking beside the street with a parent when they were struck.

According to Police the vehicle left the roadway before hitting the kids.

Police also say witnesses in the area saw the vehicle driving erratically before the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
