Kitchener murder suspect arrested in Texas

Waterloo Regional Police say that Kitchener murder suspect Ager Hasan has been arrested in Texas.

At a news conference Wednesday, Inspector Mike Haffner with Regional Police says Hasan was pulled over in San Antonio, and arrested by Secret Service as part of a counterfeit money operation. He says Hasan was still driving his black Honda HRV when he was pulled over, and had Arkansas licence plates on his vehicle.

Police are currently working with U.S. officials to bring him back to Canada.

A Canada Wide warrant was issued for Hasan on one count of 2nd degree murder in the death of Melinda Vasilije.

Vasilije was found dead in her apartment on Country Hill Drive in Kitchener on April 28th, 2017.

Yesterday an Instagram account claiming to be Hasan posted two messages along with photos of himself and Melinda.

One of the posts said quote: “I hope justice is served and punishment is given accordingly to what happened that night.”

A second post went on to read quote “I’m coming home. It’s time to end the dark path I’ve been traveling and give people the closure they deserve.”

Hasan will appear in a Texas courtroom Wednesday, and be extradited soon, according to Haffner.

Meantime, the Secret Service did not know Hasan was wanted for murder in Canada, when they initially pulled him over in Texas on Tuesday.

During the traffic stop, they discovered he was wanted on an outstanding warrant in Ontario.

“We had received information from a source, of a unknown suspect here in San Antonio, that was in possession of and receiving counterfeit U.S. currency…We learned what the suspect vehicle was, at that point we didn’t have anyone identified, just understood that they were receiving counterfeit currency.” said Paul Duran, Special Agent in Charge of the Secret Service in San Antonio.
