One street opens, one street closes as driving woes continue in Preston

More headaches on the way for those traveling through Preston.

The intersection of King and Eagle is getting ready to close adding even more delays in the already traffic laden area of Cambridge.

The closure is expected to start the evening of Friday June 16, and last four days, reopening the morning of Monday June 19.

However some good news is also on the way.

Before King and Eagle closes, Speedsville Road, which has been closed since late April, will reopen.

Cambridge City Councillor Mike Mann says they have planned the construction to minimize the impact for most Monday to Friday commuters

‘The good thing is it will be closed late on Friday the 16th and will open early Monday the 19th, and when that closure occurs Speedsville Road will be open. “Said Mann.

Signs about the closure have been set up in the King and Eagle area to help motorist prepare for the disruption.

Councillor Mann says they are trying to get the word out early, “The messaging will go out to the public so the public have time to develop alternate routes coming in to and leaving that portion of Cambridge.

The full reconstruction of the Fountain Street Shantz Hill and King Street area will continue for about another year.

Once completed the area will have new bike lanes, wider streets and new sidewalks.
