Stratford to be big part of driverless vehicle project

Stratford has been selected as a demonstration hub for driverless vehicles as part of a provincial government plan to create an Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network.

Mayor Dan Mathieson thinks his community is suited for the project because of its wide broadband network and reputation as an IT and automotive city.

Queen’s Park announced 80-million dollars in funding over five years.

The new money will create sites across Ontario to develop and test vehicles capable of sensing and communicating with their environment and navigating without human input.

The technology will be developed at six centres across the province before the vehicles come to Stratford for testing.
