Regional Police were called to home on Tilley Court in Kitchener around 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Inspector Michael Haffner tells 570 News that a young woman called them concerned about the safety of a man inside the residence.

He confirms one man is dead and the Special Investigations Unit has been called in.

“There was some concern for the lone male inside, our officers did attend, along with our emergency response unit; we had been attempting to negotiate and to encourage the male to exit the residence safety, however, we have determined the male is deceased inside the residence.”

Monica Hudon with the SIU says the man was 69-years-old.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.

Hold and Secures were in place at Canadian Martyrs Catholic Elementary School and Mackenzie King Public School for just over an hour.

Canadian Martyrs’ Principal Sean Spitzig released a statement saying, “I would like to thank the Waterloo Regional Police Service for keeping us so well informed and updated as the situation was quickly resolved. Their daily efforts to keep our community safe and welcoming is often unnoticed but very much appreciated. I would also like to thank the staff at Canadian Martyrs school. They quickly and efficiently followed all of our procedures for a “Hold and Secure” and were very diligent with a focus of keeping all of our children safe.”
