Students immunized after two Hepatitis A cases at Chalmers Street Public School

The clean up continues at a Cambridge Public School following two cases of Hepatitis A.

Chalmers Street Public School in Cambridge got a full scrub down over the weekend.

Kristy Wright, Manager of Infectious Disease with Region of Waterloo Public Health tells 570 News, the disease doesn’t spread easily, and that there’s a low chance that anyone else is at risk. “It’s not a mandatory immunization, but it is highly recommended to get to protect yourself.”

The Waterloo Region District School Board confirms Public Health held a weekend clinic and students were given immunizations as a result of the two cases. The school board says around 280 people have been vaccinated, with two more clinics being held at school this Wednesday and Thursday.”

Hepatitis A can be spread through contact with unwashed hands.

Symptoms can include fever, vomiting, stomach cramps, even yellowing of the skin and white of the eyes.
