Semi-automatic pistol seized in Cambridge, police officer from U.S. facing charges

A police officer from the United States has been arrested by Waterloo Regional Police in Cambridge.

Police seized a semi-automatic pistol and four fully loaded magazines from the engine block of a vehicle on Thursday afternoon.

When the suspect was arrested, he told police he was an 18 year police veteran who “knows what he’s doing.” He also told officers he was on a work related trip.

A 53-year-old man from Louisiana faces ten firearm related charges including possession, importing, and transporting a restricted firearm.

He’s being held in custody pending a show cause hearing.
