Let it Grow: MOvember sprouts next week

Get ready for facial fur, lip sweaters, and nose neighbours.

Movember is just around the corner.

The campaign began back in 2003 and has quickly become a popular way to raise funds for men’s health, and start the conversation about mental health, and prostate cancer.

Kevin O’Reilly with Movember KW says its important to talk about men’s health because some men feel uncomfortable asking for help.

“My dad had prostate cancer, which he survived, he passed since then of old age,” says O’Reilly. “All of a sudden you become aware of prostate cancer and you know what, it’s not so tough to get checked.”

“A guy I worked with for years had testicular cancer, never talked about it, ended up losing a testicle, and now he’s the father of three lovely daughters.”

O’Reilly says Mo Sista’s can also get in on the action and help out by raising funds, being part of the conversation, and help with local events.

“75% of all suicides are by men,” says O’Reilly. “Prostate cancer is the number one cancer commonly diagnosed in men, so we’re attacking the main health issues for men.”
