GRH hosting meeting on healthy aging Thursday

Grand River Hospital is hosting a community meeting tonight, to help out the increasingly aging population in Waterloo Region.

It’s targeting the population between the ages of 65 and 84 years old, that is expected to grow by 50 per cent by 2023, and those 85 years and older which will grow by 31 per cent.

Mark Karjalouto is the Director of Communications at Grand River Hospital and he says that people of all ages are welcome to come voice their questions and concerns.

“It’s not necessarily just for people who are older, but also considering their grown children who may be taking care of an older adult,” says Karjalouto. “What are the needs that they may have, how can we help them out and what are some of the topics that may be on their mind?”

He adds that the panel of experts at the meeting will include two doctors and two nurses who specialize in care for the elderly.

They will answer questions and discuss everything from the importance of exercise and regular doctor visits to fall prevention.

It will take place at Luther Village on Father David Bauer Drive in Waterloo, and doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Karjalouto encourages everyone to check out the hospital’s page on the event.
