Local schools need $370M in repairs: report

A new report suggests Waterloo Region’s schools are in better physical shape than most across the province, but the repairs they do need will still cost a bundle.

The report looks at the cost of such things as repairing or replacing roofs, walls, windows and heating systems.

It found the cost to fix problems in the region’s 165 schools will be close to $370 million over the next 5 years.

The Record reports that the local school in the worst shape is St. Agatha Catholic Elementary, where it’s estimated the bill to repair a number of items is just under $2 million.

Trustees have twice voted on whether to close the small school and both times decided against it.

A third vote is expected next year.
