Olympic profile: Nate Brannen (Cambridge)

Nate Brannen feels he’s much more mentally prepared heading into the Rio Olympics.

This will be the Cambridge native’s third Olympics.

AUDIO: He made the semi-finals in the 1500-metre four years ago, with the goal this time, being in the final.

“The excitement is still there about going to the games, whether it’s the first or the third, it’s just I’m not that nervous about it,” Brannen tells 570 News.

He also won’t be heading to Rio until eight days before the first round of his competition. “…Just going to stay home, get good training in and go to the village last minute (Athletes village)…Basically there to get the job done.”

Brannen says you need really good speed and strength to compete in the 1500-m.

He tells 570 News his training is non-stop. Brannen runs about 140-km a week and on the days he doesn’t run, he’s in the gym.

The men’s 1500-m competition starts on August 16th.

Brannen, who now lives in Ohio with his wife and two children, also recently started coaching running at the high school level.
