Loyalist firefighter dies after battling blaze near Kingston

A firefighter in a town near Kingston has died after battling a blaze yesterday afternoon.

Crews from the Loyalist Township Fire Department were called to an apartment in the town of Amherstview.

The O-P-P in Napanee says a firefighter was badly hurt at the scene and died in hospital.

Forty-five-year old Patrick Pidgeon was a husband, father and Canadian Forces veteran who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan.

His death has prompted an outpouring of condolences on social media.

No word yet on the cause of the fire, however, the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office is leading the investigation.
