Shots fired at Washington Police, not a targeted attack

Washington’s police chief says one man will be charged after firing on police officers during a carjacking early Tuesday.

Chief Cathy Lanier said no officers were wounded during the unplanned attack in southeast Washington.

She said the suspect carjacked an SUV with people inside after robbing four others at gunpoint. Then, she said, the man fired on officers from inside the vehicle, and officers returned fire.

Lanier says it’s a miracle nobody was killed. Police initially arrested four other people, but released them from custody because they “appeared to be victims of robbery.”
