ION construction in Uptown Waterloo expected to be complete by Christmas

There’s some good news if you’re sick of LRT construction in Uptown Waterloo.

GrandLinq and The Region of Waterloo have announced that King Street will re-open from Erb to William by the end of November 2016.

GrandLinq says underground utilities, LRT tracks, and sidewalks, curbs and base asphalt will be installed and completed by the end of November. Some construction will continue throughout December, but it will not impact vehicle or pedestrian traffic.

Patti Brooks is with Uptown Waterloo BIA and says this is fantastic news for local businesses just in time for Christmas!

“It’s just great news. It wasn’t an unexpected announcement, but to have it confirmed today was really terrific. The Christmas season is very important for any business, including those in Uptown Waterloo.”
Brooks adds that in the meantime, they encourage all of us to come visit Uptown over the long weekend.

“There’s lots happening in Uptown Waterloo this weekend. Lots of stores, lots of sales and we’re open! There’s also lots of free parking Uptown and the best way to access us is to use Bridgeport Road to access Regina Street. There’s lots of parking at Bridgeport and Regina, and those will be free all weekend long.”
