Study: Uptown Waterloo has plenty of parking

A new study suggests there is more than enough parking in Uptown Waterloo.

In fact, the study done by a consultant, suggests on-street and off-street parking is underused.

It found parking usage of available spots during peak weekday times was between 58 and 60 per cent, while Saturday’s maximum usage of available spots was 57 per cent at the most.

It’s a case of perception not matching reality.

There have been a number of complaints about lack of parking.

City Councillor Melissa Durrell has heard those concerns often and is calling for a report on how to improve communications between the city and residents.

She tells the Record, “It was scandalous and shocking to me so that disconnect is a major issue for me”.

Staff is expected to carry out another study in 2018, which is when Light Rail is expected to be running through the Uptown.
