Heat warning for first day of summer

Summer arrives early this evening, but it certainly felt like the seasons changed over the weekend.

Waterloo Region and much of southern Ontario remain under a heat warning today with the temperature again expected to reach the low 30’s with a humidex approaching 40.

Environment Canada does say relief is in sight, with a cold front expected to begin pushing into the area this afternoon and evening and that could trigger showers or thunderstorms.

By tomorrow, the high is expected to be in the mid-twenties, which is about normal for this time of year.

In the meantime, it strongly recommends you take precautions against the heat, especially the elderly, infants, young children and those with chronic illnesses.

Don’t stay out in the sun and heat for too long, dress cool and drink plenty of liquids.

Summer officially arrives at 6:34pm.
