Two boys in CHCI Fight videos identified; Police searching for account creator

The initial account has been taken down but Waterloo Regional Police and Waterloo Region District School Board administrators aren’t done with the Cameron Heights Collegiate Fight Video Twitter account.

Two boys in one of the videos have now been identified and Police have taken the appropriate action.

Staff Sgt. Mike Haffner tells 570 News that specifics cannot shared since the boys in the videos are minors.

“We were able to identify those individuals and most importantly ensure the safety of both of them and with school board administration take the appropriate action to hopefully discourage these types of incidents and promotion of violence within our community.”

He adds when police investigate violence that is posted on social media, consequences can vary.

“It’s all case by case, it would be based on the information that we’re able to glean through an investigation to determine who is responsible, but there could be potential criminal charges that may be laid.”

WRDSB Superintendent Peter Rubenschuh says based on the language and actions in the videos, anything from a detention to a formal expulsion could be handed out.

Police are still looking to identify those responsible for the original account and a new one that has recently surfaced. Haffner says this situation is an important lesson when it comes posting videos online.

“With some postings comes consequence, and whether that be throughout the community, through school board administration, or through criminal action we want to encourage the safe response and interaction between our students and within our community, and discourage violence.”
