PJ’s Pets closing 11 Ontario stores including two in K-W

A Canadian pet store chain has announced it will close more than half its locations, including two in Waterloo Region.

PJ’s Pets says 27 of its 39 stores will close, including the Petculture in the Sunrise Shopping Centre in Kitchener and the Petculture on King Street North in Waterloo.

In all, 11 of the closures are in Ontario.

In a news release, company vice president, Brad Hamilton says, “We are saddened to say that we are closing our doors after almost 50 years of serving the pet community across Canada.”

A Price Waterhouse Cooper report says the company, which employs over 400 people, has faced losses of $16.5-million since 2013.

In addition to Petculture, PJ’s Pets also operates stores under the names Pets Unlimited and Oliver & Pets.
