Eight names added to Waterloo Region Hall of Fame

The 2016 inductees into the Waterloo Region Hall of Fame include a long time organizer, fastball coach and Olympic speed skater.

John Thompson was added this year. He helped organized such events as the 2008 Memorial Cup as well as Waterloo Siskins reunions and the K-W Dutchmen anniversary.

Long time fastball coach Larry Lynch also saw his name added to the hall. He coached and played with the former Waterloo Twins. He was also instrumental in bringing the ISC World Tournament to Kitchener in 2002.

Kitchener’s Amanda Overland Anatol was inducted into the hall as well. She won silver at the Winter Olympics in 2006.

The other 2016 inductees are:

-Steve Dietrich (lacrosse player, now coach)

-August “Augie” Herchenratter (Veteran who served with distinction in the Second World War. He is a recipient of the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) – the Commonwealth’s second highest award for gallantry in action)

-Wib “Dutch” Hiller (former NHL-er, played amateur hockey in Kitchener)

-Ernie Regehr (Canadian peace researcher and expert in security and disarmament)

-Bill Tutte (During the Second World War, Tutte was invited to become a part of the highly secret codebreaking organization, now known by its location, Bletchley Park)
