Unique new grocery shopping experience pops up overseas

A new store called WeFood is located in Denmark and the uniqueness of the products it offers is that they are all expired or ruined in some way due to damaged packaging.

It’s able to offer those products at a reduced price, ranging from 30 to 50 per cent less than in traditional stores.

University of Guelph Professor of Marketing and Consumer Studies, Dr. Sylvain Charlebois tells 570 News, while this is good for those struggling financially, wealthy people, concerned about the environment and food waste, also shop there.

He says many Canadians would not consider buying expired food, but he says, “Europe is a different place.”

He says, “Europe is a place that has actually survived two major wars, so they actually do understand the meaning of food insecurity. As Canadians, really, we’ve been spoiled for many, many decades.”

He adds, “WeFood may actually become a game changer in the western world.”
