By 570 News Staff

Students and teachers were evacuated from Preston High School after a fire Tuesday afternoon.

Fire officials put an early damage estimate at $50,000 and say the fire broke out in a stairwell.

However, there is no word on a potential cause of the fire at this time.

In the meantime, the WRDSB says the school will be open on Wednesday.

No one was seriously injured but one student had to be sent to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

In pictures sent to 570 News, smoke could be seen coming from the building.
