Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is finally expected to reveal today Canada’s future role in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
He’ll hold a news conference this morning in Ottawa, flanked by his defence and international development ministers.
Trudeau has said his Liberal government would withdraw Canada’s fighter jets from the air campaign against I-SIL in Iraq and Syria, despite calls from the opposition to rethink his decision.
Sources told The Canadian Press last month that cabinet was considering beefing up the number of special forces advisors training the ground forces that are fighting I-SIL.
Today’s announcement is also expected to include new aid funding.
