Waterloo Region getting a glimpse into LRT future

Waterloo Region may be able to see into the future of LRT thanks to Edmonton’s completed project. However, the future doesn’t look bright according to one reporter.

Tristan Hopper of the National Post says there are concerns when it comes to speed and efficiency.

Hopper was a guest on 570’s Eric Drozd Show and says there are major delays and it seems taking the bus is faster.

“There is a time and a place to make cars wait for 12 minutes. If your just running a train that is no faster then the buses. There is no reason to screw over hundreds of drivers per day.”

Hopper says the $665 million dollar project also runs by a hospital meaning ambulances can’t drive through railway barriers while they wait.

LRT construction in Waterloo Region is behind schedule along King Street between Moore Avenue and Victoria St and a large heated dome is being built in the area to speed up winter construction.

Regional Chair Ken Seiling says Waterloo Region’s $818 million LRT project is on budget and schedule to be completed in 2017.
