Early morning fire at pet food plant in New Hamburg

A fire is now out at a pet food plant in New Hamburg.
Fire crews were called to Eurocan Pet Foods on Victoria Street at Highway 7/8 just after 3am on Thursday. The fire started in one of the plant’s ovens.
Wilmot Fire District Chief Russell Strickler says crews will remain on scene for several more hours.
“Fire has been knocked down, we’re just basically watching for hot spots.”
Fire prevention has been called in to investigate the cause. There is no word on a damage estimate yet.
