KWCF to help Syrian refugees coming to Waterloo Region

More local support for refugees coming to our area.

An Immigration Partnership Fund for Syrian refugees has been established at The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation.

Around 1,000 refugees are arriving in Waterloo Region this month with the first aircraft carrying refugees into Ontario scheduled to land tonight in Toronto.

And with that many local groups have come together to focus on donations, volunteering, sponsorship and housing.

The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation will handle the financial contributions.

CEO Rosemary Smith spoke with 570 News.

“We’re delighted to have been partnered with the Region of Waterloo … to put funds to work to support all of the efforts of the Region.”

And the support doesn’t stop there.

In addition to hosting the fund, The KWCF will be matching donations up to $200,000 with dollars from the Community Fund.

“We’re looking for members of our community to step forward, to match the money that we’ve made available and we will send that directly to the Region to support the Immigration Partnership Council work.”

More details can be found at The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation website.
