Gas line relocation costs higher than expected due to LRT construction

The cost of gas line relocations due to LRT construction in Kitchener is coming in higher than expected – a lot higher.
The city initially set aside $400-thousand dollars for that work in 2016.. but now.. thanks to construction delays and cost overruns… that figure has jumped by an additional $1.3-million.
City Councillor Frank Etherington is not impressed.. telling The Record the city is being held for ransom.
Kitchener’s director of financial planning says they are in discussions with the region… to see if the cost overruns can be shared.
